According to an Internet consulting site for women, I can find some wives disgruntled with their husbands who don’t often notice the niceties of what they prepared for them and even want more greasy dishes, such as 豚の生姜焼き (ginger fried pork) and カツ丼, a deep-fried pork cutlet rice bowl.
They also pointed to the nonchalance of their husbands toward sour dishes, especially pickled food. In fact, a survey done by a celebrated large Japanese advertisement company, 博報堂, the difference between females who like sour dishes and men who like them is about 20% throughout about 2 decades.

I was also astounded to learn that there seems to be a greater number of men (especially husbands who don’t cook very often) who don’t like fried tomatoes with egg. It’s ridiculous to have a tomato fried for them. I love this dish, though.
I understand this should sound annoying, especially to those who don’t like the feminist argument, but I guess the disparity of tastes between men and women might spring up from the gender gap in Japanese culture. It’s still uncommon for Japanese men to cook on their own, which could result in the nonchalance toward a number of ways of cooking.
